Gestalt Therapeutic Approach

The name Gestalt is derived from the German for ‘whole’ or ‘pattern’. Embrace holistic healing by focusing on the present moment. This experiential approach helps manage anxiety, stress, addiction, tension, and depression. Recognise immediate thoughts, feelings and behaviour to understand better how you relate to others and to situations. Gestalt approaches include acting out scenarios using creative techniques and dream recall these are effective ways to heal distress.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

This treatment resolves symptoms resulting from disturbing and traumatic life experiences. Studies show that when in REM sleep, we are able to make new associations between things very rapidly. EMDR is designed to tap into this high-speed processing mode that we all have, helping the brain to process unresolved memories and make them less distressing.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)
As a master practitioner of NLP, I am able to combine cognitive behavioural and humanistic therapies with mindfulness hypnotherapy. NLP works on the theory that life experiences, from birth onwards, programme the way you see the world. While blending NLP into your sessions, I am able to help you discover how you have learnt to think or feel so that you can take control of your actions. We will also look at your successes so you can use these to develop further successful skills and behaviours. I tend to utilise NLP more with wellbeing coaching as an additional way of working and along with other types of therapy rather than on its own.

Cognitive Behavioural Approaches

CBT aims to help you change the way you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour). Rather than looking at past causes, it focuses on current problems and practical solutions to help you feel better now.

The way we think about situations affects the way we feel and behave. If we view a situation negatively, we may experience negative emotions and feelings, which lead us to behave in an unhelpful way. Your therapist will help you identify and challenge any negative thinking so you can deal with situations better and behave in a more positive way. CBT can be helpful for depression, anxiety, stress, phobias, obsessions, eating disorders and managing long-term conditions.

Contemporary (third-wave) CBT

My additional training and studies within my Bs Hons Psychotherapy top-up focused on Cognitive Behavioural approaches, including Mindfulness and Compassion-based Concepts.

HeartMath Resilience

As a certified trauma-informed practitioner, I am able to guide you through co-regulation breathing and grounding techniques to help you stay within your window of tolerance and help you develop essential techniques for you to navigate your way through dysregulated states. These valuable resources are also incorporated into EMDR sessions to manage the impact of trauma.

Gottman Relationship Tools

Based on four decades of relationship research by psychologist John Gottman, these tools are not just for couples. I have been working with Gottman Tools since 2004. After attending a Gottman workshop in Seattle, I went on to complete a Level 1 certificate, allowing me to integrate some highly effective communication and relationship-building skills into my practice. Whether you seek to strengthen bonds with loved ones or enhance your ability to form lasting relationships, in 1-1 sessions, we can blend in some tools, exercises, and even practice in some experiential, empty chair work to enable you to strengthen and enrich your relationships.

Wellbeing Coaching

Coaching can help you develop your personal capabilities, interpersonal skills, and capacity to understand and empathise with others. I offer this as a stand-alone service for contract work, programs and in private sessions as an integrative approach as coaching skills naturally come through when offering psychoeducation around new theories in CBT approaches and also co-regulation skills, such as breathing exercises for mental health problems like anxiety, whenever helpful and suitable for you; this is all complimentary within private integrative therapy sessions.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Blending some of the key concepts of MI into sessions can enable us to discover your inner motivation for change. Empowering you to resolve ambivalence and insecurities discovering your inner motivation for change. This practical and empathetic method helps you move towards healthier choices, especially when motivation is lacking, or change seems daunting.
