Wishing You a Peaceful and Calm Festive Period
The holiday season is often portrayed as a time of joy, laughter, and connection.
But for many, it’s also a time of stress, emotional overwhelm, and reflection.
This can feel especially challenging if you’re navigating mental health struggles, relationship difficulties, or the lasting impact of childhood trauma.
If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. Many people find this season to be more complex than it seems on the surface.
Here are a few gentle suggestions to help you prioritise your well-being and find some peace amidst the festive hustle and bustle.
1. Step Outside and Embrace Nature
Even a brief walk in fresh air can work wonders for your mind and body. Bundle up, take in the crisp air, and allow nature to ground you. Whether it’s a short stroll or a longer wander, this time away from the pressures of the season can be a soothing reset.
2. Create Predictability Where Possible
For those who feel grounded by routines, the unpredictability of Christmas can feel unsettling. Try to maintain familiar routines or create a loose plan to ease anxieties. Involving your loved ones in this process can help ensure everyone’s needs are acknowledged and respected.
3. Prioritise What Truly Matters
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by expectations during the festive season. Take a step back and ask yourself what’s genuinely important to you. Focus on activities and moments that bring you joy or peace, and let go of anything that feels more like a burden.
4. Set Boundaries for Rest and Recharge
Make space for quiet time. Whether it’s a cosy corner with cushions and blankets, or simply scheduling moments of solitude, having a designated space to unwind can help when emotions or energy levels run low.
5. Avoid Overwhelm Through Communication
If you or someone you love struggles with sensory overload or additional needs, communication is key. Let others know what feels manageable and set boundaries around social interactions, noise levels, and expectations.
6. Choose Smaller, Meaningful Moments
Large gatherings and busy environments can be overwhelming. Consider opting for smaller, more meaningful interactions that feel easier to navigate and leave you feeling connected rather than drained.
7. Talk About How You’re Feeling
Whether it’s with a friend, family member, or professional, sharing your feelings can help lighten the load. You don’t have to carry the weight alone. Remember, support is available if you need it—lean into it.
8. Look Ahead with Compassion
As the year comes to a close, remind yourself that it’s okay to take things one step at a time. There’s no right way to do the festive season—only the way that works best for you.
Additional Support For Clients
To help ease any extra pressures, I’ll be offering a few additional pop-up sessions in the lead-up to the New Year. These are designed to provide a safe space for clients who have already had a consultation and are having sessions with me, who need to reflect, talk, or simply find a moment of calm. Look out for an email with the session dates and how to access them later this week.
Take care of yourself!
Warm regards,
Melanie
